University Assessment
Why Does it Matter?
- What do we want students to know and to be able to do?
- How do we know what students have learned and what they missed learning?
- What do we know about teaching and learning that can help students learn better?
Assessment is the systematic process of gathering, analyzing, and using evidence about student learning and program outcomes. It helps us understand what is working, identify areas for improvement, and make informed decisions about our academic programs. By using reliable, evidence‑based information, assessment strengthens teaching and learning and supports continuous improvement. Through assessment, we demonstrate our commitment to our students, to improving our teaching and research, and to serving the University community by continually enhancing the quality of our work.
University Assessment works collaboratively with academic departments to provide expert advice and methodological support to conduct assessment in support of the University’s mission and consistent with accreditation standards.
